Departing from the platform adjacent to the Moonta Mines Museum, the Moonta Mines Tourist Railway is a guided tour of the historic Moonta Mines National Heritage Precinct.

Featuring extensive commentary  passengers are taken past many historic landmarks of the former mining operations, including the reservoir, ore sorting floors, and through a tunnel in Ryan's Tailings Heap. It visits the former Precipitation Works, which was set up in 1900 to recover additional copper from the tailings heaps, a process which continued until 1943.

Bookings online can only be made up to the day before travelling.

There is a small release of tickets available online. 

If the online ticket release is booked out, please ensure you visit the Moonta Mines Railway ticket office on the day you wish to travel as there are more tickets available to purchase.      

Tickets are not available online on the day of travel, they are only available at the

Moonta Mines Railway ticket office.  

The Moonta Mines Railway ticket office is open 30 minutes prior to the scheduled train departure time.

Please note that the Moonta Mines Tourist Train will not operate if the temperature is forecast to be 37 c or above, this is determined by the resource location of BOM Kadina forecast https://www.bom.gov.au/places/sa/kadina/forecast/, determined the night before at 6pm.

The train will not operate during inclement weather for safety reasons.
